Rowan

I think it’s no new news that meeting new people in this modern and very digital age is hard going. So it was so nice to meet Rowan recently at our friend Lauren’s charity fundraiser party at West Elm, and we hit it off immediately.

Rowan mentioned she’d seen my work online and would love to shoot together. I was quite taken aback that she knew my work and wanted to shoot with me. Previously a dancer, Rowan is currently killing it on the DJ scene. We finally got a date in the diary a few weeks ago to shoot around Shoreditch and my pup Beau joined us too. We had such a blast shooting and Rowan is such a natural in front of the camera. I can’t wait to catch up together over brunch soon, and to get shooting again!

Six quick fire questions with Rowan…

Favourite place to DJ thus far?

Ugh too hard to choose! This year has been crazy – so many amazing opportunities and experiences have come my way and I’ve felt insanely grateful for every one. Work It, ITZSOWEEZEE, SFSC, Just Vibez, The Hospital Club, Secret Garden Party, Wireless, The Jump Off… all included the two things that make me happiest – a hype crowd reaction, and good people around me to share it.

Which artists are always on your set list?

It depends on the gig, the venue, the crowd, the mood… but J Hus has been pretty much guaranteed this summer. I have a minor obsession with anything and everything Donae’o has ever done. GoldLink is BOSS. Krs. for Soca flavoured remixes. And Dilla whenever possible.

Heels or flats?

Heels bish. Went through my trainers every day phase living in East London. Then I remembered I want to be J Lo anyway and heels are fun. One of my gay besties keeps reminding me I’m a northern girl and heels and a curly blow dry are my birthright.

Fav go-to outfit?

Something weird happened this year. I started wearing my belly out on a regular and no one reported me to the body police. I think it came from a combination of spending a lot of time in sweaty clubs and generally giving less f***s about what I learnt to think I should look like.

Go to brunch spot for the weekend?

Life has been so busy recently, and I am lazy as hell if I don’t have to be somewhere. I moved up to Seven Sisters a couple of months ago so if I’m staying local there’s a spot called Craving Coffee in Tottenham. Otherwise I was brought in on Lantana Cafe in Fitzrovia by someone who knows. That’s the spot.

Where can we see you play next?

Spinning for Takeover Ldn this month supporting Abra Cadabra. UK rap game on point – have a feeling that’s going to be a mad one. Every weekend there’s something happening – if I’m on top of my game I usually post up on Insta wherever I’m playing next. Come say hey.
