Off-Grid Glamping between the Lake District & Yorkshire Dales

Ahead of planning our latest road trips this spring/summer its got me looking back at our last big road trip back in 2021. We travelled to Ardentinny in Scotland in the MG Midget and to break up our journey home we extended our trip for three nights by stopping nearby to Lake District. As we were travelling in a small vehicle we decided that glamping was our best option for us instead of camping. The Midget didn’t exactly have the extra room for a tent & bedding on top of our stuff we’d already had for a week in Scotland.

We came across Cumfrey Yurt via Canopy & Stars and I can hand on heart say we felt like we’d totally lucked out on our arrival. Ideally located for exploring the Lake District but also very close by to also explore the Yorkshire Dales too. Writing this now I’m scanning the calendar to see when we could book another stay.

Ste & Emily our hosts created the enchanting space back in early 2021. Where they constructed the Yurt, a very thought through layout with a homemade wooden bed, which is very comfy. A fully equipped kitchen with very cosy interior touches and a log burner, perfect for when the nights turned chilly and you want to feel toasty. It’s set on the edge of four acres of woodland and meadow, a campfire area to cook on of an evening and an idyllic summer house located on the edge of the pond just down from the Yurt to enjoy watching the sun go down.

I’d never previously been to the Lake District aside from this trip so I was keen to explore. During our stay we went on a day trip to visit Keswick, which ended up being rather rainy but we certainly made the most of it. We walked along Derwentwater which was so picturesque.

We always took the scenic routes on our drives to make the most of travelling in a classic car and soak up the aww-inducing scenery.

It certainly will not be our last stay, I’m sure of that. An ideal spot if your looking for a base to explore the Lake District and/or Yorkshire Dales whilst also staying off grid and taking some time out.

Places of note during our visit:

The Factory Tap – Pub – Kendal

Brew Brothers – Cafe –  Kendal

The Swan Inn – Pub – Middleton

Hawkshead Brewery Beer Hall – Staveley

CONQUER Trading Post – Shop – Keswick

Merienda – Cafe –  Keswick

Gelato Casa Bella – Homemade Gelato – Keswick
