Earlier this month I was lucky enough to be invited along to Cornwall by Joules for early Mother’s day celebrations. You can see both posts all about the trip here – Part One – Part Two. I took so many photos in Cornwall and I wanted to share these as well so it seemed rather fitting to me use these photos to tell you lovely lot about why I think staycations are great.
Staycations aren’t always top of your priority lists when booking a holiday, but I have to say in my mind they come first and then booking a holiday abroad is something to work towards/save up for. A staycation as a freelancer is much more accessible and I absolutely love planning trips. If you were to ask my family, Ollie or my best friend Emily they’d tell you I can get stuck down a Pinterest shaped hole or rabbit warren of place recommendations when it comes to planning a trip.
Having visited Cornwall years ago with my parents I knew the kind of views I’d be treated to when visiting Watergate Bay. But visiting new places as a photographer always reignites my creativity, as if I’m seeing somewhere with totally fresh eyes and a new view. It’s hard to think of the place that you live as interesting but I assure you they are. I was blown away by the Cornish coast line and its rugged rocks and cliffs. I’m not sure anything beats fresh coastal air on a sunny day, I adored the variety of colours in the rocks and how beautifully blue the sea was. I would love to be able to shoot an editorial on this beach, there are just so many amazing textures, and colours.
Then there’s the novel things like being able to pack everything bar the kitchen sink and only having to worry whether it will all fit in the car or not. There are so many beautiful places across the UK, so many I haven’t even had the chance to visit yet. Top of my staycation to visit list is Scottish Highlands, The Cotswolds and the Lake District. There are so many gorgeous places to stay in these idyllic and scenic surroundings. There’s a few I have earmarked that I’d love to book up like a Shepherd’s Hut in the Suffolk countryside or a quaint cottage, where you could wrap up cosy by the fire on autumnal evening. I’m very excited to be heading away for a staycation over Easter and the following week to the Yorkshire Dales with Ollie and his family. I haven’t been to Yorkshire Dales before so I’m really looking forward to our trip. As well as the plan to totally switch off and chill out. What are your plans for Easter weekend.
