E17 Loves – Eat 17

We’re half way through the week already! Massive applause all round, these grey, wet, dark and windy days are fast becoming a drag. I’m very much looking forward to Spring already, until then more cosy evenings, candles lit, films on and hot comforting food.

One of the reasons I wanted to start the ‘E17 Loves’ feature was so that I could tell you all about one of my favourite restaurants in London. Let me introduce to you ‘Eat 17’ located in Walthamstow Village on Orford Road, around a 10 minute walk from Walthamstow Central train/tube station. I first started coming to Eat 17 when my middle sister Toni and her other half Simon first moved to Walthamstow back in 2013. It is a lovely place to go for dinner and the atmosphere is always friendly and relaxed. The staff are always lovely and happy to help. The decor is simple yet sleek, think leather seats and hanging tungsten lights.

There is a wide variety of food to choose from on their menu producing honest British food. All the food is ethically sourced and in season produce is always favoured. Ollie and I are totally and utterly obsessed with their buttermilk chicken burger (it was voted top 3 burgers in London by Evening Standard Magazine) and my oh my its AMAZING! We don’t even need to look at the menu when we arrive as 99.9% of the time we’re going to choose the bestest chicken burger there has ever been ever! Warning: below are multiple photos of the aforementioned burger (which is quite literally food porn) and even just writing this I am starting to get extremely hungry and salivating (realistically I could run straight to Eat 17 and order one right?! All in the name of research of course).

They make the most incredible halloumi fries for a naughty snack, along with thirst quenching cocktails and they do a rather fab Sunday roast too. We’ve been for birthdays, anniversaries, family dinners and taken our closest friends once we moved to the area, it’s only fair I share this little gem of a restaurant with you too.

When visiting you’ll also have to pop into the Spar shop next door which is run by the Eat 17 crew, it’s the most upmarket Spar you will have ever seen. There is a new takeaway shop opening inside called ‘Biff’s Jack Shack’. I’m looking forward to trying that very soon. Eat 17 also created the marvellous condiment called Bacon Jam, which you can purchase in the store along with all of their other varieties including onion jam, chilli bacon jam and chorizo jam. It’s a condiment you never knew you needed but now I can’t be without it for a weekend breakfast and it’s the ideal accompaniment to cheese on toast or toasties. A little indulgence never hurt anyone right?

They stock a huge range of craft beers (including their own Eat 17 beer) and craft sodas, on our last visit I found that they stocked the Soda Folk cream soda which is a fave among friends, so now I know where I can pick some up if I’m in need of a fix! So as you can tell I’d highly recommend a visit to Eat 17 if you ever find yourself in Walthamstow. I’ll be adding to these E17 Loves features whenever possible. I hope you’ve enjoyed this instalment and if you know of somewhere in E17 I need to feature then please do get in touch and let me know.
