Budapest Pt.1

Last weekend Emily and I visited Budapest for a long weekend. I’ve put together two photo diary posts from the trip to show you lovely lot what we got up to. It certainly was cold so layers were a must, but we loved the city and there was so much to see I’d definitely love to visit again when the weather’s warmer.

We stayed in a lovely airbnb located in the Jewish Quarter in Pest which was really well located. We could easily walk to most of the places we wanted to visit. One of the most famous ruin bars was located on our street too, but more on that in part 2. Once dropping off our bags at the apartment we wandered around the local area and grabbed some lunch at the Bluebird Cafe. We stopped by a few shops including the beautifully curated design and lifestyle store Printa. We ended the day with dinner at Mazel Tov.

The following day we headed for the Danube River to walk across the Széchenyi Chain bridge, we then caught the castle hill funicular (which gave us all the Wes Anderson vibes riding this up the hill). We walked through Castle hill area with snow on the ground over to Fishermans Bastion just in time for sunset which was so beautiful. Budapest looks wonderful in the golden glow of sunset.

We both loved seeing the contrast between the sides of the two cities; Buda and Pest. We were staying in Pest and I loved the look and feel of the area, it reminded me of Hackney in London. There’s such a contrast in the look of architecture across both sides of the city, which made it feel like each side had something unique to offer and a different kind of personality.

As this was my first trip abroad this year and first since the spring of last year it was so nice to walk around and explore a new city for the first time. I always find travelling so inspiring seeing new places for the first time can really ignite your ideas and make you look at things differently. I really hope you liked this first post from Budapest and you can see part two here. I have linked all of the places mentioned in the post below along with our wonderful Airbnb apartment.
