I hear those voices that will not be drowned

If you’ve followed this little blog of mine for a while, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of Aldeburgh! An incredible Suffolk gem, ideal for a weekend getaway and the perfect day trip to pick yourself up especially during January. Emily, Nathan & I headed North for the coast, with the perfect Sunday morning playlist blaring through the speakers cruising along the country roads, we made a pit stop for bacon butties, it would be rude not to right?

Arriving in Aldeburgh with the sun beaming across the pebble beach, it was time for us to walk off our scrumptious breakfast. We walked to see Maggi Hambling‘s scallop shell on the far end of the beach which was created and placed as a permanent art feature in honour of Benjamin Britton. A quote from Britton’s opera ‘Peter Grimes’ is pierced through the top of the shell; “I hear those voices that will not be drowned”.

We next stopped by a local tea shop for cake and after a further walk along the beach a trip to Aldeburgh wouldn’t be complete without going to their famous chip shop. With full tummies we hopped back in the car and sang the whole way home. The perfect Sunday!
